The proposed GRIP project is based on “Community Based Disaster Risk Management and Livelihood Program in taluka keti bunder, Thatta district. The project is aiming to attain following main and specific objectives.

Reduce the impacts of the future disasters (cyclones, floods) by enhancing. Capacities and capabilities of the fisher communities who will respond to the disasters effectively.

Contribute towards an enabling environment for increased and improved livelihoods of fisher communities, particularly women; -Support sustainable social, human, environmental and economic development processes.

Mobilize and organize the fisher communities for creating /developing a pressure on the state to change useless policies and practices on the disaster management.


Assist poor and vulnerable fisher communities, particularly women, in the cyclone-prone taluka keti bunder of district Thatta..In this regard, capacities of fisher communities will be enhanced in the areas of early warning systems, disaster risk reduction activities, disaster preparedness, construction of shelters and basic facilities.

  • Form women and men’s cooperatives and create their linkages.with the market as they can develop their livelihoods mechanism.
  • Highlight issues at various forums, related to sea intrusion, LBOD, degradation of Indus Delta and disaster management through advocacy and lobbying activities.


To improve the responsiveness and accountability of local government, corporations, and other powerful interests on a wide array of issues impacting the livelihoods. In this regard, SALBWS has been organizing district and national level events to raise awareness of issues. SALBWS also aim to strengthen the organizational and management capacity of local communities in coastal Sindh and to empower them work to protect their livelihoods and rights. For this, SALBWS has been conducting community meetings in villages in taluka keti bunder, district thatta, and organize training and capacity-building workshops.
